I graduated from Hopkins three years ago. Now I work full-time at an ad company. In my free time, I post tips on how students can get into their dream schools.

I’m struggling with teaching a private student time management skills. We’ve tried making schedules, to-do lists, color-coding homework (red for urgent, green for low priority), etc. Nothing’s really worked so far, and I’m getting increasingly frustrated… Any ideas?

“I feel like there’s a red pill and a blue pill,” he said. “And you can take the blue pill and go back to your classroom and lecture your 20 students. But I’ve taken the red pill, and I’ve seen Wonderland.”

Let’s home many, many students fall down the rabbit hole with him.

It’s April, and hopefully most of you high school seniors have gotten acceptance letters to at least one of your dream schools.  Before you turn off your brain completely (hey, you still have to pass!), don’t forget to thank the teachers that helped to get you in.

Drop by your sophomore year English teacher’s class and let him know where you got in and where you’re thinking about going. And what you’re planning on studying. And say thank you for answering your panicked 3 AM emails about the teacher rec that HAD to be submitted 2 days ago but you had only gotten to him that afternoon. And so on and so forth… Teachers are pretty underappreciated in this country - help to change that!

There may be things in this post better suited for my journal than for the public, but here it is:

Great post.

Here’s the biggest lie about going to a so-called “prestigious” university: you have every door open.

More than ever, it seems that where you went to school as an undergrad is not nearly as important as where you go for your post-grad studies.

Being a Hopkins grad, while certainly providing me with a stellar education, has not swung doors wide open for me (or for most of my fellow grads either). In essence, the name of your undergrad institution can help to get your foot in the door. It’s up to you to do the rest.
